Hanmer Springs Camp

From Wednesday to Friday last week we were on camp at Hanmer Springs. We stayed in the Hanmer Forest Camp. In my bunk room was: Me, Griffin, James and Finlay. (Check out their blogs too)

We had several activities to do. They were (In this order):

  • Orienteering
  • Hot Pools
  • Mountain Biking
  • Mission Impossible
  • Town Studies (A walk and a visit to a lolly shop)
  • Hot Pools
  • Tree Climbing (With belays and biners and other climbing stuff)
(Colours are days)

On Wednesday we drove from Greymouth to Reefton for a break (And COFFEE.) Then we traveled over the Lewis Pass and down into Huranui. Then it was about an hour to Hanmer. When we got there we unpacked, had some food before our first activity which was Orienteering. In Orienteering the max score was 600 points. My team had Me, Griffin, Sam and Liam in it. My dad also tagged along. We scored the max 600 points with 15 minutes to spare. That evening we went to the hot pools. I went on the Superbowl.

On Thursday we started of with Mountain Biking. We were each given a bike and started the track. It was quite easy. Towards the end we did the pump track. It was a small, bumpy track that you had to try not to pedal on. The best score I got was 1 or 2. Kaine claimed to have a score of 0!!

After that we did Mission Impossible. That was essentially puzzles and riddles. We scored OK in Mission Impossible. It was an OK game to play.

Finally we had Town Studies. For this we had a small walk up this hill called Conical Hill. That took about 40 minutes there and back. Then we went to the Lolly Shop. We were only allowed to bring 5 dollars but some people took A LOT more than that.

Last we went to the hot pools again. And I went on the Super Bowl. Again.

On Friday we did Tree Climbing. This was on a huge Eucalyptus tree. Mackenzie was clipped onto the two biners. He was climbing. I was belaying. He wanted to come down pretty fast. Then it was my turn. I climbed but my hands were numb because it was early morning and we were in the shade. I climbed to a split on the tree. On the other side I got to the same split because that was the top of that side.

Then we drove back home.
