St Johns

Today our class had St Johns. First we did DRS ABC which was what to do in an emergency. D stood for danger. This meant to look around to look for danger. This could be anything from petroleum to milk. R stood for response. First try yelling to them. If that doesn't wake them, tap their collarbone. The collarbone is in the neck and shoulder. S stood for send for help. Send someone to phone 111 and ask for ambulance. Then tell them the situation and say the address of the scene.  ABC is how the patient is treated. A stood for airways, which meant to see if there is anything blocking their windpipe. B stood for breathing. See if the patient is breathing by putting your hand on your their chest for 10 seconds. C stands for CPR. Only do CPR if the patient doesn't breathe.

Then we learnt how to tie a bandage and a cast.
Steps to tie a bandage:
1 make a pressure pad for the wound out of something not fluffy.
2 get a bandage and roll it tight.
3 elevate.
4 make an elevation sling.
This is how to tie a bandage.

Steps to tie an elevation sling:
1 get a triangle of fabric.
2 put the corners of the short sides on the person's elbow and slide along. When at the end tell the person to hold it.
3 tuck the fabric under the persons arm.
4 wrap around the person's body to the corner the person is holding on to.
5 tie a double knot. This is how to make an elevation sling.
