Jimmy 9 Fabric Project

9FAB                                      Term 1 2018
You will use the technology cycle to plan your project.
You will identify an issue, opportunity, need or desire.
My issue/opportunity/ need/ desire is to make a product out of soft materials.
Key Stakeholder
My key stakeholder is myself
Other stakeholders are
Miss Chapman
Brief
You are going to make a Soft Materials product, either a pencil case or soft toy or pillow or similar.
Specifications
Must be
  • Well made
  • Completed by the end your module - Term 2 week 5
  • Be made with materials available
Research
Find at least 3 images on the internet of projects that you might like to do, place them in the boxes below and answer the questions.

What I like: The shape and design
What I like: The design and the pattern on the shape
What I like: That multiple slots together
What I don’t like: The engines would be hard to make
What I don’t like: How complicated the pattern is
What I don’t like: The time to make
What I would change: The design to make it a TU-95
What I would change: Make it more simple
What I would change: Make only a few to fit together

Initial ideas draw up at least 2 ideas using color pencils or felt on an A3 piece of paper. Add notes/swatches/ images of materials and finishings you might use.
Specifications
Now add your own specifications e.g color, size, fabric type
  • Black fluffy fabric/White nonfluffy fabric
  • Electric Guitar Shape
  • Strong with a bamboo pole in it.
  • 40 cm high
  • 15/20 cm wide

Conceptual statement

I am going to make a Guitar for myself. It will be used for display
Stakeholder feedback- get feedback from a classmate, the teacher or a caregiver on your designs using the questions from your research above. Get them to write down (record) their answers on the A3 sheet.
Final Concept- decide on one of your ideas or modify/ combine ideas using your stakeholder feedback.
Make notes on your A3 sheet or draw up a new sketch.
Planning - Gantt Chart -a Gantt chart help you plan and complete a project on time. Identify the key stages in your project and fill out the Gantt chart below

Evaluation-
My project was a success. It was made to be a decorative object for my room.
In the end, my project looked like the paper designs I made for my project.
The only thing I would change is that I would use a more durable fabric for the back of the body because it wasn’t very strong. On the other side of things, I could use a
Gantt chart enough to keep my project on track enough to be completed early.
I completed my paperwork and had finished my project.

LEARNING LOG

Magnesium Experiment - Burning into MgO

Everything is made of atoms. Atoms are bonded together to make compounds. Atoms are “pure” substances and compounds are combinations of these pure substances. Atoms are made of three parts, Protons, Neutrons and Electrons. The Protons and Neutrons are located in the nucleus of the atom. The Electrons are orbiting around the nucleus. When to atoms bond, electrons are given from one atom to another. Sodium Chloride (Salt) is made of Sodium and Chlorine. The Sodium gives the Chlorine it’s lone electron and becomes positively charged. The Chlorine is negatively charged.
Another Chemical reaction is the burning of Magnesium to make Magnesium Oxide.

Mg + O2  -> MgO

Silver Solid + Colorless gas + Heat -> White Powdery Substance.

Magnesium burns brightly to form Magnesium Oxide. The light is used in fireworks to make them bright. Once the Magnesium is burnt into Magnesium Oxide, it is nearly impossible to rip the Oxygen atoms off and make pure Magnesium.
Difficult, But not impossible.

IF ATTEMPTING THIS EXPERIMENT, DON'T LOOK AT THE BURNING MAGNESIUM DIRECTLY. YOU MAY BE BLINDED.
